After School Enrichment
About
the
program
Luke & Rachel Whipple
We are bringing back another year of our after-school enrichment for the Blackhawk District. The enrichment program is for students K-2. We have programs to help students gain experiences with geography (fall) and cooking/nutrition (winter). The program is led by Luke & Rachel Whipple - both trained educators with teaching experience in Pennsylvania schools. The program is being hosted by Riverview United Methodist Church (1099 Darlington Rd, Patterson twp.). Riverview Church is just 4 blocks from the Patterson Primary School. The cost to enroll in the program is $10 per week, and includes materials and an allergy friendly snack. Each unit is 6 weeks long.
Frequently Asked Questions
Payments
Payments are $10 per week. That cost goes to materials, snacks, and curriculum. Parents can pay for a whole term at once ($60) or week by week. Payment can be made on any Wednesday that you pick up your child. You can pay with cash, check (made out to Luke Whipple), or through Venmo @Luke-Whipple-1. We are also willing to offer the program for free to families that need financial assistance! Just email us to make that request.
Credentials
Luke and Rachel are both trained and experienced teachers. Luke was certified in English and Math education through the state of Pennsylvania and taught in Pittsburgh Public and Shaler Area school districts. Rachel was certified in elementary education and had experience at Wilkinsburg School district as well as a work as a substitute teacher in Hampton, Fox Chapel, and other school districts.
Is the program religious?
With it being hosted at a church, it's a fair question to ask if this is a religious program. The brief answer is no. However, Luke is the pastor at Riverview United Methodist. Luke and Rachel brought this program to church leadership as a way to "care for the needs and people of the community." Getting children engaged in learning is a vital need for the community, and providing help to parents is part of our "broader mission" as a church to care and serve others.
Riverview Church agreed to host this program, provide a volunteer chaperone each week to abide by our safety policy of working with children, and will help cover any extra costs for the program.
